The Ballena Marine National Park is the first protected Costa Rican wilderness area created exclusively for its marine resources, including 17 species of corals. In addition, it represents the first marine park in Central America (UCR-FUNDEVI 1995/SINAC), and is classified as one of the best places for whale watching in the world, according to National Geographic. But it also has a wide variety of wildlife on land, including coastal birds, mammals, reptiles and of course, exotic flora that includes mangrove forests, among others and several endemic species. In this area of the National Park there is the “tombol” or whale tail formation, which is a famous natural barrier reef that was created due to the marine currents of the Pacific Ocean and has formed and maintained the shape of a whale's tail when viewed from above. Join us and enjoy almost 3 hours walking two different trails in this fantastic setting that has become an unmissable activity in the area.
